Payne County Garden Tour Coming Soon

Home Grown by Keith Reed
The Payne County Extension office relies heavily on the Payne County Master Gardeners, a group of committed volunteers who work hard to provide a variety of horticultural related educational services to the citizens of Payne County. We are pleased to announce that their 3rd annual Garden Tour will be coming up on Sunday June 10th, from 12:30-4pm. Admission will be $5 in advance (available at the Payne County Extension Office) or $7 day of the event at any one of the homes.

This is an informal event and you can simply come and go to any location on the day of the tour. Proceeds will be used to enhance the mission of the Botanic Garden at OSU.

Speaking of OSU, one of the tour stops will be the home of OSU President and First Lady, Burns and Ann Hargis at 1600 N. Washington. It’s no secret that the Oklahoma State University campus has never looked better thanks to the Horticultural staff and this will be a unique opportunity to see some of their finest work.

If “urban farming” appeals to you, don’t miss the vegetable gardens of Baker and Nan Bokorney at 517 N. Donaldson in Stillwater. Come be inspired by the possibilities of what was once vacant lot!

One of the challenges of landscape design in our area is finding colorful plants for shady areas. The gardens of Steve and Cathy Buzzard at 3323 N. Monroe in Stillwater offer a lovely example of the possible. The hotter it is on June 10th, the more you’ll enjoy this shady retreat.

Also on the tour this year is the 2017 winner of Oklahoma Gardening’s Viewers Garden contest, the home of Peggy Wolfe at 2600 W. 92nd Street, Perkins.

These four gardens are all inspiring in their own ways. Master Gardeners will be available at each of the tour stops to help answer questions you may have about the gardens, or plant related questions in general.
