New Master Gardener Class Forming Soon
After classroom training is completed, program participants are involved in an internship program of volunteer services coordinated by local extension centers. Volunteer service components vary widely around the state, but in all cases are educational, extension related, and represent the interests of University Extension.
Payne County Master Gardeners are in a unique position as we are able to benefit from an outstanding local resource, The Botanic Garden at OSU. While the majority of our classroom training will take place at the Payne County Administration Building, some of our training will take place at the Botanic Garden giving us a “hands-on” learning space to accompany our classroom instruction.
- Training consists of 13 - 3.5 hour classroom sessions plus optional hands-on learning opportunities.
- Training will take place on Thursday evenings from 5:30-9pm. Hands on-sessions will be held on Saturday mornings at the Botanic Garden.
- The sessions begin on January 11th and continue weekly through April 12th. Classes will not meet the week of Spring Break.
- Cost is $125 and includes all training materials and resource materials.
With this training comes the expectation that you return volunteer hours to either the Master Gardener Program or the Botanic Garden at OSU. New trainees are asked to volunteer 50 hours their first year in the program to become certified as Master Gardeners.
