Local Landscape Inspiration

Home Grown by Keith Reed
Finding inspiration for new gardening ideas can be a challenge for many of us. We’re fortunate in the Payne County area to have The Botanic Garden at OSU in our backyard. The Botanic Garden is a great place to go to find new plants or unusual landscaping ideas. If you happen to be reading this before Saturday the 24th, consider coming to the garden for Fall Gardenfest.

This free event will include children’s activities, garden tours, plant information booths, live music, food trucks and a mum sale. Hours will be from 10am-2pm. For more information, go to the
garden’s website at.

Closely following this will be another event designed specifically to inspire. The Payne County Masters Gardeners and The Botanic Garden Ambassadors will be hosting a Fall Garden Tour on Sunday October 2nd from 12:30 to 4pm. The tour will showcase gardens of local homeowners and will include a surprising diversity of thought for landscape design in Payne County. Tickets for the event will be available at Garden Fest this weekend or at the Payne County Extension office. Tickets will also be available at each of the gardens on the day of the event. See our
home page or our Facebook Event page for more information.

Assuming you do indeed come away inspired by these events, remember that fall is a great time for many landscape tasks including but not limited to: getting rid of unwanted bermudagrass, planting trees and other winter hardy plants, improving the soil (probably the most under-rated landscape task of all).
